STANPURE® CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE SODIUM

STANPURE®Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (Sodium CMC), also known as Carmellose Sodium, is a pharmaceutical-grade, anionic, water-soluble cellulose ether widely used as a multifunctional excipient. It is produced by introducing carboxymethyl groups (- CH₂COO⁻Na⁺) onto the cellulose backbone, converting naturally insoluble cellulose into a polymer capable of hydration, swelling, and viscosity development in aqueous systems.

Overview

STANPURE®Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (sodium CMC) is a versatile hydrophilic polymer with excellent water-binding, swelling, film-forming, and rheology-modifying characteristics. When dispersed and hydrated in water, polymer chains expand and develop viscosity, allowing formulation scientists to control flow behavior, sedimentation, suspension stability, and product consistency. An important R&D consideration is that Sodium CMC is an anionic polymer.
